New Moon - June 2020

... my lovelies. Month after month writing this gets harder.  Last month we thought: we are kinda ok. This whole global pandemic thing is slowly winding down with more and more cities and countries showing lower and lower infection numbers. There was the hint of hope that we might get to a fall that might somewhat resemble "normal".Now with the USA in a necessary struggle to right the wrongs of several hundred years of racial injustice, the largest number of those who succumbed to the pandemic globally, closely followed by Brasil and a humanitarian crisis in Jemen with war and Cholera added to the threat of Covid it really gets harder and harder to find the silver lining of 2020. So let's not forget that self-care is key, always, but especially in these super trying times. Support where you can, with actions, social shares, money (if you can) but also give yourself a little room for yourself. With Basel cancelled for good, our calendars are scarily free for the fall. Let's channel this time and energy into something good. So this month, we switched things up a bit. We'll still pull a card with Sarah from the Tarot deck and in addition we'll do a guided color meditation. This month's partner is the amazing Berlin brand Fine, and you can win a soothing fancy face pack. Later in the month, we'll do some restorative Yoga with Yulia again and we'll connect with XXX on self-love, the physical kind ;)Also, keep in mind, you can submit works/preloved items to the Art Girls Market and check-in with @thearminbar on your social strategy. Details below. Also, our membership archive is live online, where you can revisit talks, sessions or tarot cards ;)Do take care! Love,Cordelia, Maja & The HOUSE Girls

Friends, that's what the stars say this month- New Moon, June 21st

June's New Moon is a big one as it coincides with a solar eclipse as well as the start of summer. A New Moon represents a new beginning and this one brings a mega-dose of much-needed CLARITY. As the moon is new in watery Cancer, expect emotions to be high as we are all feeling a little extra sensitive. To combat the emotional tumult, focus on what makes you feel safe and comfortable. As the world continues to open back up, do not be surprised if you still want to stay at home. (Cancers are homebodies and their predilection for nesting influences us all during their season!) Give yourself extra time and space for quiet and relaxation. We are being called to zoom out and see the bigger picture right now so we can efficiently devote our energy to where it can be most impactful.By Sarah Potter

Claudia Chanhoi

Claudia’s work is based on her personal experience as a heterosexual woman in the modern world dating and her view on female sexuality along with humour and sarcasm.

Behind her colourful cartoon-based images, there is always a simple message or a lighthearted joke. The caption is a very important element to the imagery because she believes a piece of good work is not only visually interesting, but it also needs to serve a purpose.

In 2013, she started her university final project on "Sexual Objectification of Women" at London College of Communication. 3 years later, she decided to continue the project and started posting her illustration work regularly on Instagram (@brainxeyes) as her self-expression. In the early stage, Instagram removed her illustration work several times because it was a female body part. That was why at the beginning of her work, she was always trying to get passed Instagram's ban and pushing the boundaries. (Work such as "Scenery" series.

What's bringing us joy this month...what do we think about...

1. self love pt 1- To be honest, part of what got us this far is our ability to make ourselves cum. Let's revisit the truly great work the gals at www.omgyes.com have been doing, check out Erika Lust's prolific award-winning feminist indie porn and maybe treat yourself to a new toy if that is something that brings you joy ;)We also terribly enjoyed the Sex-Education series on Netflix ( anything with Gillian Anderson tbh) and will have a super fun artist talk on that subject later this month! Also check out www.thesexed.com by the amazing Liz Goldwyn, with great podcasts and articles on everything from Anal to Weed smoking and Sex ;)

2. the foods of summer - berries, fresh fruits that haven't traveled for ages, veggies grown right where you live. Summer is here for those of us in the western hemisphere and while it's a small thing, I've cherished my first sweet, dark, incredibly juicy cherries.

3. self love pt 2 - the only person that will know what kind of cake you need rn or what flowers to give you in that exact moment is you! Be kind to yourself, do the things you might do for others ( by flowers, little gifts, a lovely dinner) for yourself. It's been a crazy year so far and you deserve a present for being such a trooper.

Name: Alexander Mason Hankin Profession: Real Estate Developer Location: Philadelphia  What do you bring to the HOUSE: I think I bring a lot of creativity and a global perspective. Because I’m involved in so many organizations all over the world, The Aspen Art Museum in Aspen, The Barnes and the PMA and Philadelphia, MAD and The Whitney in New York, and the Serpentine in London I’m able to see a lot of different things that are going on in the art community. Though that I’m able to be more creative and play with ideas I’m learning from the larger community as a whole like creating my weekly art chat Luminaries Live with MAD.  Favorite women dead or alive you would want to have lunch (boozy lunch maybe) with and why: I think the woman I would most like to have a boozy brunch with, or knees up with as they say, would be Queen Elizabeth. I think she has seen so much in her reign and has met some of the most important people who have shaped history in the last hundred years, would make for the best lunch ever. She has a grace and elegance that is unmatched. Plus, I feel she would have the best cheeky stories after a drink or two. Best advice to give your 20year old self: The advice I would give my 20 year old self would be to take advantage of every opportunity you’re given. What might seem important at the time, in the long term will just be a memory. Try and think beyond the moment and take chances and risks that will make an impact on your life for the better. Alternative career if you had to pick one: That’s easy I would love to be the director of a art museum. What are you currently most excited about:Honestly, right now it’s the little things. I’m most excited about going out to dinners and being with friends again. Blake, My sister, Danielle, her boyfriend, Chris, and I went out to our favorite restaurant. Hummus, wine, under the stars with my favorite people what more could you ask for now. The one question you never get asked, but would love to answer:This is a tough one, and honestly, it took me a little bit on thinking but I think it would be what is your mantra? Well, it’s “Always be appreciative”. I always feel lucky for every opportunity my parents have given me and even the things that at the time I did not understand why it’s was so important to them, but later did. The love and support I get from my family and friends. The things I’ve been able to see and experience, I know I’m so lucky. I’m always excited when I get invited somewhere or even the little gestures. I think this is so important and I think if we all took a little less for granted and were a bit more appreciative of our circumstances the world would be a little better off. Thank you Art Gorgeous, for this opportunity to share a little about myself.

I am fine or am I done......actually neither. Judith launched Fine wanting to be done with the search for the perfect deodorant. Not toxic, yet still powerful. And here we are a few years later with a whole range of products that will end your search for the "one". We all have that one product we know works best for us, that one face wash that we always return to even if we strayed and decided to try something new ( don't! it never is as good) so let us tempt you to win a face and eye mask so good, you'll be done searching for alternatives. It activates overnight, smells grand, and is cruelty-free, organic and vegan. Also, the company is female-led so here we have it again: The perfect package. Go tell us at [email protected] why you need that mask. The perfect entry wins one worth 120Euros.
