🏛️💌 HOUSE News 11/21 - Events to RSVP to this week🔮🏛️

2021 - Week 11

...happiest Monday y'all wherever you are in the world. We are super excited for the Blockchain event with recent results on the auction market. We are thrilled to learn how Blockchain plays into the sale of $60.3 million artworks. ( Here's to you Beeple;) “When you think of high-valued NFTs, this one is going to be pretty hard to beat,” MetaKovan (buyer) said in a statement published by Christie’s. “And here’s why — it represents 13 years of everyday work. Techniques are replicable and skill is surpassable, but the only thing you can’t hack digitally is time. This is the crown jewel, the most valuable piece of art for this generation. It is worth $1 billion.”Another way, instead of obsessing how to break into the NFT market, to spend your valuable time is by joining us for the global book club. Details below. Email us. Details will follow then... Last chance to register for the first round :) And all of you are invited to join the March Meeting 2021: Unravelling the Present by the Sharjah Art Foundation, we will highlight one talk below, but there are loads more to explore. Link below as well. Also, we decided we need to move more and because we love you we will bring you along. From next week on we will collab with The 22 and offer two free classes out of their program each month. (Use code freetrial when signing up on Eventbrite): One Circuit Training (Tuesday, March 23rd, 9 am) and one Yoga session (Thursday, April 8th, 6:30 pm). If you wanna do more and like what they offer with Artgorgeousx22 you get 15% off all their other classes. And lastly, we learned about Seed Cycling...Yes, this will probably mostly be interesting to us female house members, but gentlemen, you do have a Hormone cycle as well. It is just less discussed and researched... So by eating specific seeds you can supposedly ease that pesky, sometimes crippling PMS. Let's experiment!Happiest Monday to you all!Love, Cordelia, Maja & the Girls

Panel: The Biennial Nation | جلسة: أمة البينالي

with

Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Catherine David, Bongiwe Dhlomo-Mautloa, Gabi Ngcobo & Octavio Zaya

Thurday, March 18, 2021 2:00pm CET

Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev (Director, Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art - Cerruti Collection), Catherine David (Deputy Director, National Museum of Modern Art, Centre Pompidou), Bongiwe Dhlomo-Mautloa (artist, curator), Gabi Ngcobo (curator, educator), Octavio Zaya (Executive Director, Cuban Art Foundation)

Moderator: Coco Fusco (artist, writer and Professor, Cooper Union School of Art)

This panel will engage with the form of biennials in relation to the notion of nation-state in the age of globalisation. It will explore ways in which biennials can become spaces for the imagining of nations but also provide critiques of nations. Panelists will take a critical look at biennials as spaces of cultural diplomacy and examine what this diplomacy means as these biennials become spaces for projecting national images. Several biennials, including the Whitney Biennial, Gwangju Biennale, Shanghai Biennale, Biennale of Sydney and Manifesta, have courted controversy over issues of diversity, sponsorship, censorship and politics.

That blockchain thing. We heard about it, we've been hearing about it for years. But what exactly is it? And how does it apply to our work in Art/Design/Creative fields?

Marjorie Hernández de Vogelsteller, Founder of Lukso, is here to explain to us what Blockchain is, give us examples for ways it could possibly be part of our world and answer your questions.

First up is Lawrence Weschler's "Seeing Is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees"As Michael Govan (New York Times) said "[Seeing is Forgetting] has convinced more young people to become artists than Velvet Underground has created rockers." The author graciously agreed to chat with us, thanks to our Head of NYC Mac McDonough! I already got mine, let's see who's down, how long delivery of the book will take, and how long you estimate you'll need to read it :) Lawrence (Ren) Weschler agreed to meet us for a little Q'n'A once we're through so here's something to look forward to :)

Craftsmanship: The Next Superpowerwith Margherita and LærkeTuesday - March 23rd6:00pm CET

So Handcraft. It was a bit dreaded in school and the scarf we all had to knit didn't quite turn out as we imagined, but there is so much more to it. Since then we read about the soothing powers of picking up the needles ( google Dr Barry Jacobs of Princetown University +knitting ;), we all swooned over amazing knitwear and I know a whole lot of women and men that have since their schooldays picked up the needles quite successfully.

We will sit down with two luminaries in the field and learn where the artistic application of those formerly deemed housewifey skills can take you. Margherita and Lærke.

Missed an event and wanna watch the recording, wanna connect to other members of the HOUSE, wanna just snoop around the member's area...here's a direct link ;)
