1. Art Basel Paris opens with unique works

@ArtBasel Paris 2024 returns from October 18–20 at the newly renovated Grand Palais. Among the unique works on show is Cameron Rowland’s Blood (2024), a powerful sculpture that digs deep into the oppressive histories of scent training walls. Equally tantalising is Lit de sirène (2024), or “Mermaid bed,” by German-born Salzburg-based artist Agnes Scherer, created entirely from paper with indicated scribbles. Other highlights include a five-piece work by Frieda Toranzo Jaeger at Taka Ishii and Renée Green’s conceptual wooden stage, Seen (1990). Stay tuned for more updates!

2. The astronaut wears Prada!

In a fashion-meets-space milestone, NASA has unveiled a new spacesuit co-designed by Axiom Space and #Prada for the Artemis III mission, set to land the first woman and person of colour on the moon. Debuted at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan, the suit’s outer layer combines high-performance materials with Prada’s signature design elements, including a subtle red stripe. Prada’s Lorenzo Bertelli emphasized the collaboration’s focus on astronaut comfort and futuristic innovations in materials. Expect this space couture moment in 2026!

3. New York art adviser Lisa Schiff pleads guilty

Once a high-profile New York art adviser, Lisa Schiff pleaded guilty to defrauding clients out of $6.5 million. From 2018 to 2023, Schiff misappropriated client funds for art purchases and sales to cover personal expenses. After her fraudulent activities unravelled, she faced multiple lawsuits and filed for bankruptcy in January 2023. Schiff’s collection of over 200 works, including pieces by Damien Hirst and Richard Prince, will be auctioned at Phillips this autumn. She faces sentencing in January, with a potential 20-year prison sentence.

4. Lorenzo Serafini named Creative Director at Alberta Ferretti

The Aeffe Group just announced @LorenzoSerafini as the new creative director of #AlbertaFerretti following the retirement of the brand’s founder, Alberta Ferretti, from the runway. Serafini, who joined the Aeffe Group in 2014 as the creative director of Philosophy, will now oversee both brands as Philosophy will merge into Alberta Ferretti from AW25. His debut collection for the Ferretti brand will hit the runway in February 2025. Exciting changes are ahead for the iconic fashion house, watch this space…
