A new species of gecko has been named Cnemaspis vangoghi after Vincent van Gogh. This cute lil guy was discovered by scientists from the Thackeray Wildlife Foundation during a 2022 expedition in Tamil Nadu, India. It’s dubbed “Van Gogh’s Starry dwarf gecko,” due to the males resembling “The Starry Night” painting, adorned with grayish-blue bodies, pale blue dots and stripes, and a hint of raw sienna akin to the painting’s stars.

At its peak, it boasted a readership of 13.5 million and showcased the works of renowned photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, and Margaret Bourke-White, as well as iconic images like Alfred Eisenstaedt’s VJ-Day kiss in Times Square.
