2. Artists Protest Alleged Censorship at Barbican Exhibition

Diedrick Brackens and Mounira al Solh, along with artists Yto Barrada and Cian Dayrit, have joined forces with three other contributors to demand the withdrawal of their artworks from an exhibition at the Barbican Gallery in London. Their decision is a form of protest against an act of censorship by the institution. This move comes after the Barbican canceled a scheduled lecture by Indian writer Pankaj Mishra upon discovering that he intended to discuss Israel’s actions in Gaza.

3. Renowned Art Critic Roberta Smith Retires

Roberta Smith, renowned as one of the foremost art critics, is set to resign from her role as co-chief art critic at the New York Times. Having dedicated 38 years to the Times, with an official tenure spanning 32 years, Smith has been a pivotal figure in shaping the publication’s artistic discourse since assuming the position of co-chief art critic in 2011. Now in her 70s, Smith enjoys widespread acclaim for her insightful critiques.

4. Princess Kate Middleton’s Creative Pursuit

A mysterious photo of Kate Middleton and her three children surfaced recently, igniting rumors of her absence since January. Despite withdrawing from the public eye since Christmas 2023, Middleton finally shared a family portrait on Sunday, March 10 — Mother’s Day in the UK. However, far from dispelling conspiracy theories, the photo seemed to fuel them further. Middleton admitted to amateur photo editing in a statement on March 11, apologizing for the confusion. Yet, this only spurred more scrutiny and meme creation around the oddities in the image.

5. Finalists Revealed for London’s First HIV/AIDS Memorial

Five artists have been selected as finalists to design London’s inaugural permanent memorial dedicated to HIV/AIDS. Among them are Ryan Gander, Anya Gallaccio, Diana Puntar, Harold Offeh, and Shahpour Pouyan. Their proposals for the memorial, slated to be revealed in 2026, promise to commemorate this significant aspect of history. The memorial’s placement near the former Middlesex Hospital in Fitzrovia, where Princess Diana inaugurated the UK’s first dedicated AIDS unit in 1987, adds a poignant resonance to its significance.
