2. Robots Are Taking Over the Artworld

In the latest ‘Robots are taking over the artworld news’ Adobe has introduced a new AI tool called Firefly which allows users to make quick modifications to images by typing in commands. Using generative AI, Firefly has the capability to automatically alter the photo or image being worked on by generating a paintbrush based on an element already present in the image. Meanwhile, artist and author, Molly Crabapple has led a petition against the use of AI in artwork. What will be next?

3. Art Basel New Fair Director

Art Basel has appointed the current head of Gallery Weekend Berlin Maike Cruse as its new fair director.Cruse will start in the newly created role in July as director of the major art event in the Swiss city and oversee the 2024 fair. The creation of this position is one of the first major changes to the company’s leadership since Noah Horowitz returned to Art Basel as CEO last year.

4. A Voluptuous Mermaid Statue in Italy Is Causing a Stir

Last week we reported on the backlash against the Botticelli AI Venus tourism campaign for Italy. Now a voluptuous mermaid a statue in Puglia, is causing a stir in Italy. Created by students from the local Luigi Rosso art school, the mermaid has drawn criticism for having rather provocative features. “It looks like a mermaid with two silicone breasts and, above all, a huge arse never seen before on a mermaid. At least not any I know,” said Bari-based actor, Tiziana Schiavarelli, via Facebook. What do you think?
