1. Culture at Tom Sachs Studio Revealed

In an exposé on Monday, Curbed (an off-shoot news oulet from The New Yorker) reported that former studio assistants for Tom Sachs have said that the workplace environment created by the artist was “destabilizing and scary.” In an Instagram post by Artnews explaining the exposé in more detail @jerrygogosian commented: ‘I have known and worked with @tomsachs back when I was just starting out and he was f*ck*ng nice and funny. I loved him then and I still do. He’s a weird artist. I appreciate that.‘Thoughts?

2. Art in Odd Places (AiOP)

Art in Odd Places (AiOP) scheduled for October 13-15, 2023, curated by Gretchen Vitamvas, invites proposals for its 18th annual outdoor public visual and performance art festival taking place on select blocks each day along 14th Street, Manhattan. This year’s theme is ‘dress’. The proposal submission deadline is Sunday, May 14. Find out more info here.

3. Versace Hits Hollywood

Contrary to its traditional spot on the Italian fashion calendar, Versace hosted its Fall/Winter 2023 runway show days after the end of Fashion Month in LA. Supermodels strutted down the catwalk in front of a star-studded front-row audience including Miley Cyrus, Anne Hathaway, and Elton John. Lady Gaga took the term “fresh off the runway” to another level at the Oscars by arriving at Sunday’s ceremony in a gown Gigi Hadid had debuted at the Versace show just three days earlier.

4. Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova to Collaborate With Sotheby’s

This week, Sotheby’s revealed its online auction My Body, My Business, curated by Nadya Tolokonnikova, a founding member of the global activist group Pussy Riot. The online sale includes 31 pieces by female artists, including works by Marina Abramović, Cindy Sherman, Jenny Holzer, and Sarah Meyohas, among others, who have inspired the activist along the way. All of the proceeds from the sale will go toward Planned Parenthood. “I spent two years in jail fighting for feminism in Russia, and it hurts me to see reproductive rights being taken away in the U.S.,” Tolokonnikova said in a statement.

5. Fashion Is Going Backward

According to Vogue Business, data collected throughout fashion month, brands failed to make progress in terms of size representation on the runway this AW23 season. Our of 9,137 looks across 219 shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, just 0.6% were plus-size (US 14+), and 3.8% were mid-size (US 6-12). This means 95.6% of looks presented for AW23 were in a size US 0-4. Read more about the report here.
