Hello, Gorgeous!

Happy Friday Folks! Here is a round-up of the art x fashion happenings that took place this week.Hugs and stay sane,The Girls

1. In the Dog House

The art world collectively cringed this week when a collector accidentally knocked a $42,000 sculpture by pop artist Jeff Koons to the ground in Miami Florida. She had tapped it with her finger, witnesses at the event said leading it to smash into pieces. The sculpture was part of a limited edition set of 799. Some rumor the breakage was a PR stunt, akin to the 2018 Banksy shredding.

2. The Less-Is-More Approach

Rijksmuseum’s Vermeer show has opened to 5-star reviews. Tracy Chevalier wrote in The Art Newspaper ‘Exhibition organisers will be learning from this show for years to come. – A less-is-more approach to the biggest-ever exhibition of the Dutch Old Master’s paintings made this blockbuster a triumph.’ The special dedicated exhibition will be held from 10 February to 4 June 2023 in the iconic museum located in Amsterdam.

3. The Best Shows at London Fashion Week

London fashion week has been dominating our social media feeds lately. Stand-out shows included Daniel Lee’s stunning debut for Burberry, Dilara Fındıkoğlu’s show inspired by the women’s protest movement in Iran, Richard Quinn’s floral catwalk, Simone Rocha’s latest foray into folklore and the star-studded extravaganza event for Moncler.

4. Frieze LA

Artists, galleries, and collectors from around the globe descended on Los Angeles for the highly-anticipated return of Frieze. The fourth edition in the sunny city, which took place February 16–19, hosted over 120 exhibitors from 22 countries this year in the new location of Santa Monica Airport. 5. Whoops LV Is in Trouble!

Louis Vuitton has used the work of late artist Joan Mitchel against the foundation’s wishes to advertise the ‘Capucine’ $10,000 bag. Representatives from the estate have confirmed that they turned down the request to feature the art in the advertisement. At least three works by the Abstract Expressionist were featured as the backdrop to the campaign with actress Léa Seydoux. This week the foundation sent a cease and desist letter to the luxury fashion house demanding the company withdraw the campaign, a full accounting of where the advertisements appeared, and an apology.
