Your weekly art world cheat sheet

A WEEKLY WRAP UP OF ART, FASHION AND POP CULTURE

Welcome to the Friday Art Girl Fax newsletter, where we explore the intersection of art, fashion, and pop culture.

After a week of deadlines, meetings, and studio visits, this is what you deserve: fresh highlights, unexpected gems, and the stories shaping the week.

Hugs and stay sane,
The Girls

🚤 HONG KONG’S FLOATING TOY SPECTACLE

Hong Kong is going big on 25 October with the world’s first floating toy parade. Picture Doraemon, Sesame Street, LABUBU and KAWS sailing through Victoria Harbour, plus pop-ups, games and toy zones courtesy of @arr.allrightsreserved.

🧢 KAWS LEVELS UP AT UNIQLO

Speaking of KAWS, he’s levelling up at UNIQLO with a brand-new creative role, curating collaborators and shaping fresh concepts way beyond tees, as the Japanese brand’s first Artist in Residence.

🚽 BEEPLE’S BATHROOM BREAKTHROUGH

Meanwhile, Beeple is breaking boundaries (again). His latest “canvas”? A designer public bathroom inside Nanjing’s Deji Plaza. Complete with immersive art and a tie-in to his ongoing Deji Art Museum show Tales from a Synthetic Future.

📊 ARTNET’S MARKET PULSE

And for a quick art-market reality check, Artnet’s Margaret Carrigan (@reallifemaggie) breaks down mid-2025 auction stats—hint: the market’s tough but not without bright sparks.

🌋 ARC’TERYX & CAI GUO-QIANG APOLOGISE

Arc’teryx has issued an official apology after backlash to a Cai Guo-Qiang commission in Tibet’s Gyantse area. The Rising Dragon firework piece raised ecological concerns. The brand is now accelerating environmental protection and cultural projects, while Cai works with third-party experts to assess the artwork’s environmental impact.

Art, toys, loos, and numbers—all in a week’s work. 🛳️🎨
