Lovely members, good morning, good afternoon, and good evening wherever you are in the world ;) Summer is still in full swing but slowly we're getting ready for fall. Applications for HIVE are still open.Details below. Also, member Johanna is opening her show at Villa Heike. We are partnered with the Tbilisi Art Fair and are able to offer one lucky winner a slot in their upcoming section called HIVE entirely for free. You can apply as an artist, a collective, or a gallerist presenting just one position (that is special for us, don't be alarmed that the website of theirs does not mention this ;) We will also be present so those just traveling for the fair for fun, do let us know and join us for drinks! Layer by layer the works of Johanna von Oldershausen and Riccarda Raabe come into being. While von Oldershausen’s process is based on recomposing analogue and digitally arranged layers into seemingly surreal collages, Raabe’s expressive paintings are characterized by the addition, subtraction and manipulation of layers of paint.

In their work, both artists create narratives made up of fragments, forms and fields of colour, which in their combination convey both ease and playfulness. 

Von Oldershausen and Raabe invite us into an exploration of their own (hi-)stories and how these fit into a greater context of the human and particularly the female experience. Both play with the tension between interior and exterior interpretations, between passive and active experiences. On the one hand history just happens and, as women, they have inherited a certain identity; on the other hand, they re-claim agency in constructing and rewriting their own stories and defining their own ever-shifting categories. 

Although their artistic practice differs, they are united in their appreciation of life as an iterative movement between oftentimes ambivalent and opposing forces. Knowing that it is never about reaching a final equilibrium - but rather about embracing the nonlinear and sometimes even messy process with all its uncertanties and ambiguities.

The Tbilisi Art Fair and The Art Gorgeous bring you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate free of charge in an international contemporary art fair”….or something else.TAF has a special section called HIVE, for an artists solo presentation. Every year 40 artists from about 15 countries have an opportunity to show and sell their work to the 14000 guests and visitors of the fair and benefit from the large international media coverage of TAF. That means The Art Gorgeous too!To be selected at Hive, you need to be an artist or an artist's collective working exclusively in contemporary visual arts. You can also apply as a gallerist with a solo presentation!Take your chance and send them your application before July 30th if you are selected, participation will be free for you. All you need is transportation and lodging in Tiblisis. The fair will take place 22-25/09/22 in Georgia (not the one in the US!)!
