London HOUSE / Tatiana LoveMerging HorizonsOpening 24th of May, 20226:30pmGallery 7 - Cromwell PlaceLondon

« Merging Horizons » refers to the concept of 'fusion of horizons ’by the German philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer (1900-2002).

A dialectical concept that results from the rejection of two alternatives: objectivism, where the objectification of the other is achieved by forgetting oneself; and absolute knowledge, according to which that universal history can be articulated in a single horizon. Consequently, he maintains that we exist neither in closed horizons nor in a single horizon.

This notion of « horizons » refers in our show to the visual perception of horizons one can find in Sonia Balassanian’s and Hessam Samavatian’s works as well as to « horizon » as a way to conceptualize our discernment. The horizon is as far as we can perceive or understand it. Comprehension occurs when our current knowledge is shifted to a new, broader horizon suggested by an encounter, an experience or even a surprise.

Our exhibition « Merging Horizons » interprets this fusion by connecting the spectators’ knowledge with the artists’ expression of horizons broadening it's perception beyond imagination.

London HOUSE Circlesa solo of  Ruth Laskey's stunning textile works24th Mayfrom 6-8pm.

I would love to invite you and your Art Gorgeous House members to the private view of Ruth Laskey's solo exhibition at Huxley-Parlour gallery on 24th May from 6-8pm. If you are interested in organising something even more special for your members such as a guided tour, we can certainly accommodate. Here is a link to the RSVP portal.

Titled Circles, Laskey will present a suite of seven new weavings from her Twill Series: a sustained exploration of form, colour, and process that has defined fifteen years of artistic production. The colourful minimalist designs gravitate towards the Bauhaus masters like Anni  Albers and Gunta Stölzl who gained notoriety for their experiments in textile and composition. Laskey’s work is made using hand woven and hand dyed fabrics through a long, meditative process of meticulous craftsmanship. The spirit of Bauhaus exists within the universe of Laskey’s intricate work, celebrating the legacy of the very few women masters within a movement that was hugely male dominated.

Having initially trained as an art historian, Laskey’s practice is immensely rooted in the Minimalist method of precise and orderly construction and at the beginning of her career, she’d also make her own paints and weave her canvases.

The multimedia exhibition makes no qualitative distinctions between the artistic and the technical but focuses on the sensibilities and modes of creativity associated with communication techniques and programmatic situations.

Comprising works of sculptures, drawings, moving images, generative art, NFTs, artist-designed software, and projects at the interplay between virtuality and reality, Between Realms questions how technologies could be deployed to address some of the most complex and pressing issues of today.Curator Jessica Wan is a London-based curator and writer who seeks to take an inclusive and interdisciplinary approach to form modes of knowledge production and dissemination that encounters culture and the political as an open question. She has worked closely with artists and thinkers to develop works in non-profit and commercial spaces including museums, foundations, galleries, art fairs (Art Basel), biennales (Venice Biennale), and cultural events. She is currently a visiting practitioner at the Chelsea College of Arts and a contributing writer to various publications.

Member love Poggio Tempestacurated by Caterina FondelliOpening June 11Via Francesca Sud Poggio Tempesti, 1550050 Cerreto Guidi (FI)from 4:30pm

Put one foot before the other, breathe, take your time, if you feel the need, get rid of your footwear..Try to choose freedom. This exhibition asks you about it, it requires you to try to leave aside some preconceptions and rules that forces you to follow already marked routes.

“Poggio Tempesta” was born after many walks, made of fatigue and rumination, demanding paths and courage undertaken as the only inner flame. From this place, so familiar in all its inclinations, perspectives, roughness and sweetness, you run away and come back as if wrapped in a rubber band, without being able to leave it.

If you start this journey, please do it with some time available and with a mind ready to welcome presences, evocations and narrations. It is an itinerary without planned directions, explore and decide what shape to give it, a circle, a spiral, even a star, there is no guidance.

What is certain is that you will encounter many details to observe, that you will have to keep your eyes peeled because nature here can make fun of your perceptions and the artworks have to be discovered. Whenever you come to a revelation: stop. Examine every portion of the entities conceived by the artists, don’t limit yourself to the first glance, linger and let them tell you what they have to say.
