Retro Africa announces a major solo exhibition by the award-winning multidisciplinary artist Ken Nwadiogbu this spring, presenting a new series of paintings representing Nwadiogbu’s experiences living in Nigeria; an installation branded ‘Jesus of Lübeck’, a canoe referencing the Badagry Slave Trade; and an animated NFT series of a digital recreation of “the migrant”. This exhibition marks Nwadiogbu’s inaugural solo exhibition in Nigeria, and Retro Africa’s first NFT launch.

I am pleased to invite you to this very special Art Gorgeous get together, where we celebrate and champion two female artists' solo shows. Furthermore, we will head over to nearby JDJ Tribeca Gallery and deep five into the universe of artist Bea Scaccia, who will give us an insight into her debut solo show "With their Striking Features" and give us a closer insight into her artistic practice. Olive Allen

Olive Allen is a New York-based visual artist. She is a pioneer of the crypto art movement, and has been creating in the NFTs space since its inception in 2018. Her art, sardonic in nature, explores current cultural shifts through deeply personal experience.

Bea Scaccia

Beatrice Scaccia’s work, articulated in drawing, painting, and stop-motion animation, investigates the absurdity of the human condition while performing the act of existing. Exploring themes like the artifice of the ornamentation, labor of beauty, and vanity, Scaccia develops an enduringly ironic universe where any concept of identity waves.

Our own Maja is part of a group project alongside FRZNTE, Kolbeinn Hugi, Margarita Jimeno, Malakoff Kowalski, Roman Roth, Spazio Curacurated by Marie-Therese Bruglacher. "Seven Minutes in Heaven" is the title of a teenage party game. Two people go together into a dark, closed room for seven minutes to do whatever they like with each other until time runs out. Picking up on this concept, this state of shared discovery determines the performance and exhibition Parcours that takes place on the occasion of the opening of the architectural ensemble, designed by Berlin-based architectsAHM. The artists open dialogue with the architecture, its natural surroundings, the history of the site and its future use. The video and sound works, performances and installations question how we move through built, social and natural spaces-how they shape us and, vice versa, how we form them. In doing so they alienate or sharpen our perception of the here and now. They stimulate imaginative spaces that momentarily shake our learned behavior within the context of built environments and social spaces that emerge within them."Seven Minutes in Heaven" is an invitation to continually re-explore city and society through the dialogue between art, architecture and nature. What potential does the attempt hold to understand prefabricated structures of architecture and the public sphere as well as social codes valid therein as unfinished, in the sense of typologically no longer fixed and,in the long term, open spaces?
